A Premier Sporting Destination in Mangaluru
Located in the Vamanjoor area of Mangaluru, the Pilikula Golf Club (PGC) is set within the lush, 370-acre expanse of the Pilikula Nisargadhama—a major eco-educational and tourism hub.
History & Origins
The club was conceived in 1998 as a joint initiative between government officials and local citizens. Key figures in its establishment included the then-Deputy Commissioner Dr. E.V. Ramana Reddy and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mr. M. S. Goudar.
While it began as a sub-entity of the Pilikula Nisargadhama Trust, it gained independent status on October 11, 2001, when it was officially registered as a separate club. Since then, the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada has traditionally served as the Club’s President, ensuring a strong link between the administration and the local sporting community.
Course & Terrain
The course is celebrated for its challenging, undulating terrain that makes use of the natural hills and dales of the coastal region.
- •The Layout: Originally a 9-hole course, it has evolved into a full-fledged 18-hole, Par 72 course.
- •The 2025 Transformation: Late 2025 saw a massive ₹20-crore renovation designed by the world-renowned firm Pacific Coast Design.
Etymology
"Pilikula" translates to "Tiger Pond" in Tulu (Pili = Tiger, Kula = Lake), referencing the historic lake where tigers drank.

Proximity to the New Mangalore Port draws international tourists from cruise liners, adding a global flavor.
